Packaging design

Bob Bernstein is a American businessman being the founder and co-founder of mutipul bisnesses but In 1969 and 1977 he worked with the McDonald`s chain to create designs and packaging. Which has been timeless ever since. I know that this man is not the most visionary designer but what I wanted to show from looking into him was how important packaging can be. The happy meal box was first created by Bernstein in 1977. When he first created the iconic packaging it was only realised in four cities to see how the response was as well as if the design was creating an impact when it came to being useful. After this period of McDonald`s analysing it they decided to make it a world wide product in there branches in 1979, from then the box has had different advertisements on the front but it has always worked well for what it was made for. It`s iconic to children who have grown up with the fast food chain near by. This packaging was needed but it has created an impact that`s more then just holding some chips and nuggets. This is an important fact when creating packaging. It needs to solve the problem you have plus stand out agents other competition.

This picture is from a McDonald`s in the late 1970`s. As you can tell this time period was quite some time ago but this item of packaging has manged to stay timeless though the decades which I think is a rare and iconic accomplishment.

Safety Labels After finding the official legal document provided by the government on there cosmetic laws in the UK I was able to get a better understanding of what my packaging must include. This was informative because I do know that there has to be correct labels on packaging so that the consumer can see if they want to use it but I didn't know know enough  to create my own packaging  that applies with the law. Chosen Brand: Maybelline New York

Maybelline New York After researching a bunch of well know drug store brands to pick as my client I have decided on Maybelline New York. I picked them as I believe I would have a little bit more freedom with the design as I was very close to picking L`Oreal as well, if it wasn't for L`Oreal having other franchises under the same name I would of gone with them due to them having in my opinion a bigger range of products but I didn't want to limit myself to making the logo still recognisable to the original as I think that would of limited my creative flow. Making the decision to go with Maybelline New York is still very positive as they have grate products that I would feel confident recommending and working with as well as a big range to work with. I love the fact that they work with iconic models that are very trendy and can help promote the new campaign to the world. Zine Front Cover

Front Cover Options  The first page of my zine has two designs as in my journal I sketched out an idea but I had two ideas for the background. This is why I have two different options here but I have to look into the both and decide which one I think is best shows the message I am trying to send as well as the most ascetically pleasing.      The first idea that I spoke about in my journal was to have past campaigns in the background of the front cover with the text bold over the top saying “THE FUTURE OF” then the Maybelline name logo that I have chosen as my most favourite design. This idea at first wasn’t working out as I haven’t used In design before I didn’t know how to make an image smaller when copying it in, but after playing around with it I figured it out. This allowed me to create the cover you see to the left.
